<h1>Echobox&#8217;s zine &#8216;UNBOX&#8217; is coming back for another edition this year.</h1>
<h2>The theme of this issue is “5 years from now”. As 2026 will be the year Echobox turns 5, we are taking this opportunity to reflect on how we got here and where we are going. 
We’ve invited our residents, family and friends to be part of it and submit their own interpretation of the theme, like ageing and growing, visions for the future (either 5 years from now or beyond), community building, Amsterdam, radio, Echobox.</h2>
UNBOX will include written features, poetry, interviews, artwork and photography and more.
As Echobox Radio turns five in 2026, we are reflecting on how we got here &#8211; and where we are going. The theme is open to interpretation and might touch on:

We welcome pitches for essays, interviews, poetry, artwork, photography, recipes, and more. Family members &amp; makers know how to find us before the 22nd of March.
<h3>Background 
In 2025, Echobox Radio launched UNBOX, a publication to celebrate our station, scene and city. UNBOX will be a yearly publication with contributions from the Echobox team, makers, our partners and listeners. The zine provides us with a chance to produce a physical document celebrating what we do, which will be distributed for free to the Echobox Family.</h3>
UNBOX will include written features, interviews, artwork and photography. All content must relate to the station, city or radio.

The second edition of Echobox’ zine UNBOX is coming up

<h1>On Friday, March 27, Echobox Presents enters a new chapter.</h1>
<h1>Since the early days of Echobox, Echobox Presents has been our monthly takeover: a moment where we invite DJs and artists from Amsterdam and beyond to step into the booth and showcase their sound on our airwaves. Every month we host three selectors, spanning emerging talent to established names, each bringing their own perspective to the broadcast.</h1>
<h3>For the first time ever, Echobox Presents will now be broadcast live with video and only streamable at our own website.</h3>
Streaming straight from the Spätkauf at Oedipus, this new format opens up the experience beyond radio. What was once purely an audio broadcast will now become a fully visible session &#8211; bringing the atmosphere of the booth, the records, and the people behind the decks directly to the screen.
The format remains the same at its core: three DJs, one evening, and a wide spectrum of sounds rooted in the Echobox community and beyond. But now, listeners will also be able to step inside the room and witness the sessions as they unfold.
Artist announcements will follow soon via our social channels. Expect a mix of familiar voices from the airwaves and fresh faces stepping into the Echobox booth.

<h1>For the fourth year in a row, we’re back at Oyster festival with Joygail radio. On 14th of March, we will broadcast live from Melkweg, showcasing fresh grime, R&amp;B and hip-hop from 18:00-23:00.Finessekid, Ledbyher, Tia Gordon, kwes e &amp; BXKS are ready to drill down the airwaves.</h1>
<h3>Joy will be on your airwaves all day with music, performances and exclusive interviews with the artists above.</h3>

Echobox at Oyster Festival 2026

<h1>AMBIT &#8211; the scope, extent, or bounds of something. </h1>
<h2><a href="https://garagenoord.weticket.io/echonow-afsluit-party" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AMBIT</a> will showcase the scope of crafts of the seven makers in the <a href="https://nowhere.nl/events/ambit-echonow/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Echonow</a> program and the way they have developed their artistic practice over the past ten months at Garage Noord on the 5th of March.</h2>
The club night marks the moment where Rumi Jill, Tamacoochies, North Not South, Victor de Groot, Amber Heijkers &amp; Nina Herdigein will step out of the shadows and take up their spot in night life. A space to discover new talents, converse, but most importantly dance and celebrate.

Bar40 will be hosted and curated by Nina Herdigein with DJ sets from Pr1n6666r1r1, Toya, Jason &amp; Rumi Jill. Nina’s curation is defined by good music that makes you move before you even realize you are. Drawing from previous concepts, the room will be filled with variations of house, afro beats, hip-hop, dancehall, baile funk, reggaeton, finishing with a more electronic twist.
The vision behind the curation, and therefore the lineup, is a celebration of local talent. Every set highlights what makes each DJ unique, creating a night for and by one another.

Downstairs becomes its own world. North Not South takes over with a live set, Amber Heijkers brings a live performance, and our DJs Chucho &amp; Tamacoochies step in blending Caribbean and Latin rhythms to further energize the space. All of this is surrounded by Victor de Groot‘s scenography, shaping the atmosphere throughout the night.

AMBIT - Echonow presents clubnight AMBIT at Garage Noord

Echobox is taking over <a href="https://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/nl/bezoek/agenda-en-activiteiten/vincent-op-vrijdag">Vincent op Vrijdag</a> at the Van Gogh Museum on the 28th of November from 19:00 to 23:00.
As a place where music and people come together, we’re building a community of individuals who share the same hunger for sound, expression, and connection. Here, it’s not just about playing music, but about sending a message to the world, which is exactly what we’ll be doing on this last Friday of November. Our residents will be taking over the museum with a postcard workshop, an interactive on-location broadcast, visual art projections during the whole evening in the Big Hall, panel talks, a jingle workshop, and live music. But more importantly, they’ll be showcasing the essence of community radio.
Maybe Vincent van Gogh felt the same way we do at Echobox: the urge to build something where people and ideas come together. When he moved to Arles in 1888 to start his own artist colony, he didn’t find a community &#8211; but he did find a deep friendship with Joseph Roulin, the postman. That same spirit of friendship and collective creation is what we celebrate with our event at the Van Gogh Museum &#8211; an ode to connection, inspiration, and the people who make shared listening, discovery, and storytelling truly come alive.

Echobox is taking over Vincent op Vrijdag

Echobox Radio is excited to announce its move to a new home at Schaafstraat 21, inside Oedipus Brewery in Amsterdam-Noord. The official moving date is November 5, 2025, marking the start of an exciting new chapter.
The new Echobox studio will serve as a central community space: more open, more accessible, and designed to bring people closer to the music and conversation that define the station. Visitors will be able to check out broadcasts, connect with the team and its more than 150 radio makers, and be part of the creative energy of the Amsterdam’s grassroots cultural landscape.
“This new space represents everything Echobox stands for, it’s open, collaborative, and rooted in the community. We’re creating a space where radio isn’t hidden, it’s something people can see, hear, and be part of.” -Chalice Cox-Hynd, Echobox Co-founder
Mo Ghabri, Echobox co-founder, adds: “Moving to Oedipus in Noord is a huge step forward. It allows us to grow, increasing our broadcast hours, hosting more events, and staying connected to Amsterdam’s creative scene.”
As Echobox enters its fifth year, we are looking forward to expanding its programming and further growth.

Echobox Radio Moves to a New Home in Noord

This <a href="https://www.amsterdam-dance-event.nl/en/">Amsterdam Dance Event</a>, Echobox Radio returns with a full week of programming on the airwaves and the dance floor. From a special broadcast from an Amsterdam Ferry to a collaborative fundraiser and our annual Echobox Presents Amsterdam showcase, we are amplifying voices that move the scene forward and exploring how music can connect us.

We begin on October 22 with Foam x Echobox Radio &amp; Chinnamasta, a four-hour performance and livestream from the GVB ferry de Pont. On the waters of the IJ, sound, image, travellers and bicycles come together in a collaboration inspired by the exhibition Tapsei by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/fideliofaustino/">Fidelio Faustino</a>. The route of the ferry will be announced soon, but as always it is free to join.
Home Again
Later that day, São Paulo’s <a href="https://www.instagram.com/goptun/">Gop Tun</a> and Berlin’s <a href="https://www.instagram.com/homeagain.berlin/">Home Again</a> unite for a full-day fundraiser at <a href="https://www.instagram.com/skatecafeamsterdam/">Skatecafe</a> in support of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/refugeeswelcomeinternational/">Refugees Welcome</a>, an international network providing safe housing and integration for people forced to flee. From 17:00 to 21:00, Echobox and Refuge Worldwide co-present a day programme of panels and music exploring themes of sustainability, nightlife and community.
The first conversation, When the Lights Go On: what happens after the party – intimacy, loneliness, community? brings together <a href="https://www.instagram.com/momanager/">Mohamed Ghabri</a> (Mo Manager, Echobox Radio), <a href="https://www.instagram.com/solsync.health/">Veronique de Leon</a> (Sol Sync Health), and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/angelboy.dorien/">angelboy</a> (Producer, DJ), moderated by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/rgdelima/">Ramon de Lima</a> (former nachtburgermeester and AFK).
The second panel, Nightlife Under the Current Climate: Sustainability, Fundraising and Partnerships – how to navigate in the current climate, features Han Husain (AFK, Echobox), <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ic_yonic/">Iona Smith</a> (The Queer Agenda, Echobox) and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/lulaluna____/">Luna Lula</a> (Possibility Open Studios), moderated by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/doubleamagazine/">Anastasia and Awa (</a>AA Magazine co-founders) . Musical interludes from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/adamjcooke/">Adam Cooke</a> and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ketama_man/">Ketama Man</a> will be broadcast live on Echobox.Radio and Refuge Worldwide. Entry to the daytime programme is free.
From 21:00 to 04:00, the focus shifts to the dancefloor. Three rooms and more than twenty artists come together, all performing without a fee to support the cause. Every ticket sold contributes directly to Refugees Welcome. Come early, stay late and be part of something meaningful.

The following days, from October 23 to 25, Echobox Presents Amsterdam returns for its yearly ADE showcase. Music Against The Grain – September 26 @ Skatecafé
On Thursday, September 26, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/void.againstthegrain/">VOID</a> presents Music Against The Grain: a one-day festival celebrating the art of boundary-defying music. Expect a collision of punk, rap, dub, techno, post-punk, and everything in between.
Headlining the night is <a href="https://www.instagram.com/esgtheband/?hl=en">ESG</a>, the legendary NYC dance/punk outfit, performing their final European show, alongside the long-awaited Dutch debut of Memphis rap pioneer <a href="https://www.instagram.com/shawtypimpmusic/?hl=en">Shawty Pimp</a>. The lineup brings together cult innovators, fierce live acts, and local underground heroes for a night that bends genres and breaks norms.

VOID: Music Against The Grain, Radio Special and Festival

Over the course of three days, <a href="https://www.napplus.nl/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NAP+</a> and pos (possibilities open studio) present a live programme of conversations, music, and interventions broadcast from the Centrale Markthal. Each day is shaped around a distinct theme, International Relations, Art Spaces, and Art &amp; Words, through which invited artists, curators, and practitioners reflect on the questions and possibilities of working across borders, disciplines, and contexts.

Transmission For Palestine – The 15 Hour Fundraiser

We are excited to announce the three-day collaborative programme by Echobox Radio and pos (the possibilities open studio) during the NAP+ Art Fair, hosted and broadcast live from Centrale Markthal. On this event we will dive into the often close intersection of sound and art, examining how artistic practices, physical space and beyond,  influence one another through insightful talks, panel discussions, and experimental DJ sets. Echobox x Ray-Ban @ Kwie Kwie

See you at Stripfest! This Saturday 24th May, Amsterdam Noord will be coming together to celebrate the area and all of the venues that make it special.
We’ll be posted-up at Benelux all day. The daytime programme is free for everyone from 15-20. After that, you’ll need the passe partout to join us, but you can tune in to the whole thing on Channel 2.
We&#8217;ll be hosting some chats with the festival organisers and a selection of artists playing at the festivals, as well as a live broadcast of Benelux&#8217; evening program courtesy of Echobox Resident Tienson.

Echobox x Stripfest @ Benelux

We’re joining up with Holland Festival on Thursday 22nd May at local hotspot Murmur for an evening of music and chats to celebrate composer and pianist Craig Taborn. The evening will feature music from Jameszoo and Echobox resident Joygail, as well as some chats between Joy and Shane Burmania (BIMHUIS programmer) and Sun-Mi Hong, with whom Taborn will work and perform after his residency at BIMHUIS.

On 16th May we&#8217;ll celebrate the first edition of Unbox, our new Echobox Zine, at Bonne Suits on Warmoesstraat.
We&#8217;ll be there all evening with drinks, DJs and copies of Unbox ready to celebrate with you. The zine is free for Echobox family members and available to everyone else for a small fee to cover our costs.
Unbox features stories, recipes, music recommendations and investigative features put together by Echobox makers and family members. It&#8217;s a celebration of the station so far and the people who make it special and (we think) its a great read!

Echonow is your ticket to turbo-charge your talent and break down the barriers between you and your dream career in night culture. 
6 successful applicants will be enrolled onto a 10-month training programme co-ordinated by Echobox Radio and Productiehuis Nowhere, featuring a training budget, one-to-one coaching, masterclasses with leading lights of the Amsterdam night and access to professional standard equipment.

The training plan aims to break down barriers to the nightculture industry and is open to anyone between the age of 18 and 27.
Each participant in the programme can take part in a monthly coaching session that provides them with the opportunity to focus on their personal growth and specific goals. Coaches are specialists in the chosen discipline, with a wealth of experience in nightculture, who are personally assigned to each successful applicant.
In addition, all participants will have access to masterclasses with leading lights of the Amsterdam night. These masterclasses delve into themes such as creative concept development, cultural trends, marketing, and entrepreneurship. With an individual work budget, participants can take four 1:1 workshops with leading professionals in their field.
Throughout the program, participants will work on various interventions at existing club nights in the city, continually putting their work into practice. At the end of the programme, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their talents by hosting a dedicated club night.
Finally, participants will have access to studio time, allowing them to spend an average of ten hours per month rehearsing, experimenting, and creating on professional-level equipment.
How to apply?
The application process includes two selection rounds. First, applicants will be required to share more information about themselves and their work via the pitch form below. This includes a list of questions about what you do, your goals and what you hope to learn from Echonow.
After the first round, candidates will be invited to an interview round with experienced trainers from Echobox and Nowhere, to identify who will be the six participants in the Echonow programme.
The initiative is co-led by Echobox Radio, one of Amsterdam’s premier independent stations, and Productiehuis Nowhere, a production house that provides training and development programmes for  young makers to become the leading talent of tomorrow.

Alongside the performances there will be a market with local, Lebanese and Palestinian artists contributing, as well as delicious manakeesh. 
We will again be selling a t-shirt, prepared to celebrate and commemorate the occasion, with all profits donated, designed by Siga, co-host of Echobox&#8217; monthly Outside show.
Half of the funds will support Riwaq Beirut, a music and community space providing hot meals, medical supplies, and essential items to displaced individuals in Beirut. Remaining funds will be distributed among local NGOs focused on children’s education and psychological support, aid for migrant workers abandoned by employers, grassroots assistance for families in Gaza, and direct action initiatives in the Netherlands.

On November 30th, Echobox are teaming up with fauna y flora, brainchild of Echobox resident Neska and long-time collaborator Berton, for a day-into-night celebration of ecological sounds!
We&#8217;ve put together a lineup of Echobox favourites and special guests to take over Amsterdam&#8217;s mysterious Der Hintergarden and the Echobox airwaves.
We will have a live broadcast on our second channel from 15.00 until 19.00, featuring Black Currant, FuutuureJazz, When Do You Sprout?&#8217;s Chalice is a witch and special guest Pebblle.
As we venture into the night we will shut down our stream for a back-to-back exploration of dub, ambient and everything in-between from Neska and Berton, live performaces from Nancy Phantom and Comforter2 before closing courtesy of mul/ANNA.

Echobox x fauna y flora

EPA is here! Echobox Presents Amsterdam is our yearly showcase during ADE where we shine extra light on local collectives leading the way within our scene.
On Thursday, corecore will bring a three-hour ‘admin’ session, with their core team pulling up to the studio for their core sounds of ethereal, playful and technicolor beats.
Next up, on Friday it&#8217;s the Platform’s turn to take-over our airwaves, bringing along a stacked lineup of residents and special guests for talks, performances and DJ sets.
Hosts Sami and Djina will kick-off the broadcast at 10, before a DJ set from Dan1Dang3r with freestyle rap from Gatori &amp; Dr!pd.
At 10.35, performance art collective Trevoga will take us through their practice in an extra-special interview, followed by a live freestyle performance from Michael Ekow and May and a DJ set from Floris Fahrenheit.
At 23.20 Floris will step up to the mic alongside Pete Gomes for an extra special interview, before DJ sets from Platform residents Lara Renner, Dan1 Dang3r and CyberFairy777 close things out with DJ sets and talks.
On Saturday we’ll bring you two extra-special takeovers. First from fashion/football crossover store Lack of Guidance, and then the prodigal return of a much-loved collective.
Lack of Guidance have agreed terms with seasoned veterans Cinnaman and Loopey for 90 minutes each of ballers and baile. Here we go confirmed!
Finally, we’ll close off the weekend with the EXCLUSIVE RETURN of AMPFEMININE. All three of Soft Break, Bella Hall and Deborah are back with their fix of high-energy carnage to send off EPA for another year.

Echobox Presents Amsterdam '24

For a few late September days during what felt like the last of the Summer sun, NAP+ art fair took over the sprawling industrial space of Donauweg 11 with an art fair aimed at deconstructing what art fairs are. We joined for four days of music, on-location broadcasts, interviews and panels with some leading lights of the Amsterdam arts scene.
Across the three days of broadcasting, we built up 14 hours of original radio material, which is available now to listen again. Here’s a rundown of everything that went down during our live broadcast from NAP+.
Day 1: ‘Behind the Scenes’ with Rice, Peas, Roots &#038; Culture
Friday 12th September we went behind the scenes with two Echobox hosts as our intrepid guides. Marcel and Wes blur the lines between art, music and culture every month on their pan-African variety show. 
The hosts of Rice, Peas, Roots &#038; Culture, Marcel &#038; Wes, dove gave us a peek behind the curtain of the art world with conversations about transporting, the hands on nature of being an art graduate and a peek into the minds of the founders behind the whole thing.
NAP+ was founded as an antidote to formal art fairs and an ode to how they started in the 80s, focusing on emerging talent and work that challenges visitors: NAP+ founders Sara Lang &#038; David Doesburg talked us through their ‘sub-universe’. “It all started with the idea that Amsterdam needed something like this… a vibrant, alive, cool art fair” &#8211; Sara Lang. “I wouldn’t even call it an art fair! It’s by and for galleries and artists” &#8211; David Doesburg.
Punctuating Marcel and Wes’s soundtrack of soul, funk and disco-adjacent grooves was Peruvian born, Rotterdam based multi-disciplinary artist and Echobox resident with Perreo31, Sandra Zegarra Patow. The conversation felt like old friends: from the origin story of her artist name 20 Uñas, to how to navigate a relationship between art and DJing as well as the ultimate in hangover cures, followed by a DJ set of signature reggaeton and dembow. 
Important to the co-programmer of this on location broadcast, gallerist Mabel Woodley, was talking to art transporters: an often overlooked, yet crucial role in the world of art (and with some of the wildest and weirdest stories). The panel talk ‘Transportation of Art’ featured artist and transporter Bo Bosk and Joep Münstermann from the Anything is Possible art handlers, and took us through the weird, wonderful and often surprising world of art transportation. Ever wondered what makes a good replacement for breast milk in a long-term installation? Look no further! 
Plus an intimate dissection of one of the art world’s lesser discussed dynamics: that between a gallerist and an artist. Artist Tyna Adebowale and gallerist Ellen de Bruijn rounded out the day with a delicate and intimate conversation on their origin story and how important this symbiosis is.
Day 2: ‘Collectivity &#038; Navigating The Arts’ with Luke Cohlen
Saturday 14th September, Aural Conduct head-honcho and Echobox mainstay Luke Cohlen took the reins for an exploration of collectivity in the world of art, as well as some of his signature leftfield selections.
Echoing the overarching philosophy of the weekend, Luke’s experience within collectives and the art scenes of The Netherlands could not be better placed. Concerned with art as a collectivised practice, his music selections for the day also reflected this, within his signature range of leftfield, ambient, deconstructed and dark storytelling. , 
Echobox’s neighbours for the weekend, De Wasstraat, showcased 20 young artists who just graduated from school of art or the master/atelier program, presenting their work in the former car wash and ranging from films, installations to sound work and paintings. Luke sat with Félix Keslassy, a De Wasstraat artist to talk about their practice, limitation, experimental architecture and how to navigate the scene as a new graduate..
Members of Axia Maxim, the Echobox residency that recontextualises non-club music into high-energy spaces, also have their own experiences navigating the artworld with various practices.. All good friends, Luke, Elina Tapio &#038; Julia Mira discussed how to define a collective (as a ‘collective of two) as well as club sets as an art practice, before a signature Axia Maxim set: “&#8230;don’t compromise [your taste]. Experiment. Show off all of the colours that your selection carries and be proud of that.” &#8211; Elina Tapio 
Luke’s theme for the day’s panel discussion ‘Young, Grassroots: Working Together in Modern-day Art Worlds’, came from the heart. Joined by Pim Lamme, owner of the semester9 gallery, INDEBT founder Ciro Duclos, and David Kloosterboer and Benjamin Carels, curators of De Waastraat titled, the conversation dwelled on the significance of collectivity to make art accessible in an unfriendly system.
Finally, we rounded up the day with Sjoerd Hermens, Director and Curator of Rozenstraat, with a discussion of funding in the art world and the pressures that emerging artists face trying to make a living through their practice.
Day 3: ‘Arts &#038; Sound’ with Loma Doom
Sunday 14th September, we dove into the intersection of art and sound with Echobox resident, sound artist and professor Loma Doom AKA Femke Dekker. 
The day began liminally by dialing in with British, sculptor, Turner prize nominee and Tate Modern exhibitionist Delaine Le Bas to discuss her work, the importance of her Romani roots and how she uses sound in putting together her works. 
Conversely Loma’s next guest, Jonathan Castro, the graphic designer behind Dekmantel Ten and experimental music showcase Weather Report, is making art for the world of music. Long time collaborators and friends, Loma and Jonathan discussed his roots from Lima, to navigating the politics of arts studies in Amsterdam, his visual work and how it connects to his musical endeavours. Jonathan curated a unique selection of post-punk gems and psychedelic cumbia.
As a beautiful circular moment, Loma Doom was joined by two of her former students &#8211; both of whom were exhibiting at NAP+ &#8211; Femke Kamau Nganga and Heidi Holström. Both artists feature sound heavily in their artistic work and broached the question ‘When does sound become art?’ The conservation broached the sidelining of sound in art academies, and learning to appreciate the mundane sounds of everyday life, from skyscraper whistling to drunken Yorkshire drawls on airplanes.

With a lineup of Echobox residents giving their ode to a decade of of the festival, plus conversations with some of the artists performing in the concert hall this year.

Echobox launches Echobox Family

We continue to witness the ongoing genocide in Gaza with a profound sense of powerlessness. The prospect of a permanent ceasefire and an end to the 17 year blokkade remains distant, while the humanitarian assistance reaching the region is minimal compared to the enormity of the need. This underscores the urgency of persistently highlighting the situation,mobilizing resources to support aid, and showing solidarity with the population of Gaza, and the Palestinian people more broadly.
On Thursday May 30th, we are organizing a fundraiser dedicated to supporting the victims of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Before and after the music + film programme, we organize a market with various sellers, including Middle East Archive, and a range of local and Palestinian artists.
Through this event, we are amplifying Palestinian culture and life in a time of unfathomable grief and suffering, and so we urge you to be conscious, reflective, and respectful when entering our space.
